Maria (Marie Katrin Ritt) dreams of a life that will take her away from the narrowness of her rural living conditions. Model - that would be the goal of her dreams. Star photographer John Steinmetz (Gabriel Barylli) becomes aware of Maria; he sat on the jury of a beauty contest from which she emerged as the radiant winner. Steinmetz has long been living above the limit - in the hands of a ruthless slave trader (Mathieu Carrière), who sees in Maria's innocence an asset that can be sold to solvent clients.
